SUMMARY:Mediation in Ireland: Lawyers\, their duties and their attitudes
DESCRIPTION:The Commonwealth Lawyers Association and NIVAARAN – Mediators of the Supreme Court of India present a Guest Lecture on “Mediation in Ireland: lawyers\, their duties and their attitudes.” This session will explore the statutory framework governing mediation in Ireland\, the professional duties imposed upon lawyers to advise clients on mediation\, and the prevailing attitudes within the legal community toward such obligations. Through comparative and research-based insights\, the lecture seeks to deepen participants’ understanding of how legislative reform and professional culture together shape the effectiveness of mediation as a dispute resolution mechanism. \n\n\nThe topic probes how lawyers respond to such obligations. Do they meaningfully discharge their duty to advise? Is mediation presented as a genuine dispute resolution pathway\, or as a procedural formality to be ticked off before litigation commences?
