SUMMARY:The future of Artificial Intelligence and Automated Decision-Making in Public Law”?
DESCRIPTION:The CLA’s Public and Administrative Law Committee invite you to join them for a webinar held by Katie Schwarzmann\, Churchill Fellow and Human Rights & Public Law Solicitor\, and Siddharth Sijoria\, The YCLA Committee Co-Convenor and of the Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Madhya Pradesh\, as they examine “The future of Artificial Intelligence and Automated Decision-Making in Public Law”? “\, moderated by Adam Riley\, Barrister\, 3 Hare Court \nRegister here \nWebinar Overview \nGovernments have adopted and deployed AI to assist in making decisions that have significant implications for the lives of individuals. This has included the use of AI ‘tools’ to assist with decisions in the fields of immigration\, welfare and social security\, healthcare\, school admissions\, criminal justice\, and more. The adoption and development of such technologies shows no sign of slowing. \nProponents of AI technologies point to the significant potential these have to improve efficiency in decision-making and data analysis\, for example\, in relation to research into disease\, in improving accessibility to services for disabled people\, in agriculture\, education\, and in the distribution of humanitarian aid\, to name but a few. \nHowever\, the increasing adoption of these same technologies also poses various challenges. These include their use as tools of suppression and surveillance. In addition\, there is also the risk of the abuse of human rights as a collateral consequence of the operation of more “benign” AI tools. Far from ameliorating bias and discrimination\, the unconstrained use of certain AI tools risks the exacerbation of discrimination and inequalities in society as well as privacy invasion. \nHow should the law to respond to these manifold challenges? What do practitioners have to be alive to in order to keep up with these changes in technology? Are the traditional principles and processes of Judicial Review sufficiently future-proofed? \nTime:\n6.00 am Nassau EST\n11.00 am London BST\n11.00 am Lagos\n12.00 pm LusakaCAT\n3.30 pm India\n6.00 pm Malaysia\n8.00 pm Papua New Guinea\n11.00 pm Samoa \nDate: 26th September \nSpeakers:\nKatie Schwarzmann\nSiddharth Sijoria\n \nModerator:\nAdam Riley \n  \n
