Ali Rasheed

The Maldives

Ali Rasheed is a lawyer and legal reform advocate from the Maldives, currently serving as the Managing Partner of Patronus Law Firm LLP. He holds a Bachelor of Shariah and Laws from the Maldives National University and was admitted to legal practice in 2018.

Ali’s commitment to civic engagement began early. During his university years, he was elected President of the Maldives National University Students’ Union, one of the biggest NGOs in Maldives where he championed student rights and led initiatives to promote legal awareness and civic education. In 2011, he was elected as one of the youngest local councilors in the Maldives’ first Local Council Election.

Throughout his career, Ali has served in a range of legal roles across the public and private sectors. At the Maldives Correctional Service, he led both the Legal Division and the Professional Standards Division, with a focus on legal compliance, institutional reform, and professional ethics. His broader contributions span dispute resolution, legal advocacy, community engagement, and youth empowerment.

In recognition of his outstanding volunteerism and dedication to public service, Ali was awarded the National Award for Voluntary Service by the President of the Maldives in 2020.

Alongside his legal practice, Ali serves as a lecturer in law, actively contributing to the education of future legal professionals and supporting the development of legal education in the country. He remains deeply committed to strengthening the rule of law, enhancing access to justice, and encouraging youth participation in democratic processes.
