The Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA) is pleased to support the LAWASIA Environmental Law Conference 2026, taking place from 19th to 21st August 2026 at APEC Haus, Ela Beach, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
Hosted by LAWASIA, the Papua New Guinea Centre for Judicial Excellence and the Papua New Guinea Law Society, the conference is convened with the support of the South Pacific Lawyers’ Association and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association.

The Environmental Rule of Law: What It Is, How It Is Implemented, Its Threats, Its Institutions, and How It Can Be Upheld
This timely and important conference will bring together lawyers, policymakers, academics, and judges from across the Asia-Pacific region to explore the concept and practice of the environmental rule of law.
Participants will engage in discussions examining:
⚖️ The meaning and foundations of the environmental rule of law
🌱 Practical mechanisms for implementation and enforcement
⚠️ Emerging threats to environmental governance
🏛️ The institutions responsible for upholding environmental law
🤝 Opportunities for strengthening legal frameworks and regional cooperation
Set against the backdrop of Papua New Guinea’s remarkable natural environment and rich cultural heritage, the conference will provide a dynamic platform for learning, dialogue, collaboration and capacity-building in the field of environmental law.
Bringing together leading experts and practitioners, the event will foster meaningful exchange on the legal tools and institutional frameworks needed to address pressing environmental challenges across the Asia-Pacific.
