Chinaecherem Nwaubani is a Partner in Y. C. Maikyau & Co – a full-service law firm in Nigeria and leads the Firm’s International Arbitration and ADR Practice.
A dispute resolution expert with over 17 years’ experience; proficient in the disparate but related fields of litigation and alternative disputes resolution, Chinaecherem has since her admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2008, been in private legal practice and has represented clients in a broad spectrum of disputes across the various levels of court in Nigeria, election petition courts/tribunals, and before arbitral tribunals. She is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and an accredited mediator who has assisted parties to reach negotiated settlements.
Beyond litigation and ADR, Chinaecherem is an active member of the legal community in Nigeria and has served the Bar in various capacities. From 2022 to 2024, she served as Personal Executive Secretary to the President of the NBA, during which time she participated in the making of key regulatory instruments, including the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners, 2023; Legal Practitioners’ Remuneration Order, 2023; Nigerian Bar Association Remuneration Committee Guidelines, 2024; and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA-AMLC) Anti-money Laundering Appointment and Examination Rules and Protocols. She is presently a member of the National Committee for the Review of the Arbitration and Mediation Act, 2023 and the National Policy on Arbitration and ADR, 2024. She is also a regular speaker at Conferences.
