Military Law – current issues and challenges
Many states have military justice systems which operate to support the operational effectiveness of their armed forces. Military justice systems should meet the fundamental requirements of any system of justice: be independent, impartial, and afford the right to a fair trial, thereby maintaining the Rule of Law. To achieve this, military justice, like any justice system, must develop and evolve in order to remain fit for purpose. This session will examine some of the challenges to modernising military justice, and the ways in which some states are seeking to ensure they are meeting the standards required to deliver justice and support the Rule of Law today.
