In a major victory for human rights the Court of Appeal confirms that non-discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is protected by the Belizean Constitution.

CLA is delighted to have supported this intervention along with the HDT and the ICJ. The government’s limited appeal to the 2016 decriminalisation judgment was dismissed. The Court found favour with the argument that ‘sex’ includes ‘sexual orientation’ — making this a seminal decision for this issue in the Commonwealth. See HDT’s full press release here. And the full text of the judgment here.
