Dear President Fiona Ey and Members of the Samoa Law Society,

RE: CONGRATULATIONS ON THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SAMOA LAW SOCIETY

On behalf of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA), I extend our warmest congratulations to the Samoa Law Society on reaching the remarkable milestone of your 50th Anniversary.

  1. For five decades, the Samoa Law Society has stood as a vital pillar of the legal profession, playing an indispensable role in upholding the rule of law, protecting judicial independence, and safeguarding fundamental constitutional rights. A strong, independent, and resilient law society is essential to maintaining public trust in the administration of justice, and your steadfast commitment to these principles over the past half-century is truly worthy of commendation and celebration.
  2. The Samoa Law Society should also take immense pride in the achievements of Fiona Ey, who represents the Samoan legal profession with extraordinary distinction as a CLA Council Member. As Co-Convenor of the CLA’s Climate Justice Committee, Fiona has spearheaded our climate justice advocacy across the Commonwealth. Her vision, leadership, and dedication to addressing one of the most pressing issues of our time — and one of profound importance to Samoa and other small island states on the frontline of climate change — have elevated the voice of the Pacific and brought an invaluable perspective to the global legal community.
  3. The bond between the CLA and the Samoa Law Society is founded on shared values and mutual support. In advocating for the independence of the legal profession and the rule of law in Samoa, the CLA will continue to stand firmly by your side, most recently standing in solidarity with you in October 2025 following your powerful statement on ministerial roles and the rule of law. We look forward to building on this valued partnership, collaborating closely on key initiatives, and supporting the Samoa Law Society as you navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.
  4. Once again, we congratulate the Samoa Law Society on 50 years of distinguished service to the legal profession and the people of Samoa. We wish you every success as you continue to strengthen the rule of law, uphold the highest standards of the profession, and advance the administration of justice in Samoa for many decades to come.
