Martie Garnes

Martie Garnes is an esteemed Attorney-at-Law who specialises in criminal law at the renowned Law Chambers of Pilgrim & Associates in Barbados. Known for his fearless advocacy, Martie has earned a reputation for precision, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice. He is dedicated to defending the rights of the accused and ensuring access to fair and effective representation for all.

Martie currently serves as Convenor of the Criminal Law Committee of the Barbados Bar Association, where he has led several reform initiatives aimed at creating a more just, efficient, and trusted legal system. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field, he was awarded the inaugural Barbados Bar Association Recognition of Excellence Award in 2024.

In 2025, Martie was awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship and is presently pursuing a Master of Laws (LL.M.) with a specialism in Criminal Justice at Queen Mary University of London. His postgraduate studies reflect his commitment to deepening his expertise and further strengthening the criminal justice system in Barbados and the wider Caribbean.

In addition to his legal practice, Martie gives back to the community through his work with Community Legal Services, helping to ensure that vulnerable individuals have access to quality legal support. He is also passionate about mentoring young lawyers and advancing the legal profession across the region.
